Most of the worry people have about renting a car in Dubai comes down to one question: “will they actually let me?” It’s a fair thing to wonder in a new country. The reassuring truth is that Dubai has made this genuinely painless — the list of what you need is short, and once you’ve got it, you’re usually driving the same day. Here’s exactly what the requirements are, whether you live here or you’re passing through.

Rent a car in Dubai — requirements, documents and age

The documents, by who you are

There are really only two situations, and you’ll know instantly which one is yours:

Drivers visiting from Saudi, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman or Qatar have it even easier: your Gulf licence works here as-is. Our tourist rental guide and the note on the international driving licence spell out the nationality-by-nationality detail if you want to be certain before you fly.

How old do you have to be?

For most cars, 21 is the line. Step up to the premium and performance models and the minimum usually climbs to 25, sometimes with a requirement that you’ve held your licence for a couple of years. If you’re on the younger side, just tell us your age when you message and we’ll come straight back with the cars that are open to you — no guessing, no wasted time. There’s more on this on the minimum age page.

Paying — and why there’s usually no deposit

Here’s where a lot of first-timers brace for a nasty surprise, and here’s where we’re a bit different. Most of our fleet is no-deposit, which means we don’t freeze a big chunk of money on your card for the length of the rental. That also makes it realistic to rent without a credit card at all — talk to us about what works for you. Insurance is already in the price; if you like detail, here’s how the cover and excess work and how any deposit is handled on the cars that do carry one.

The two-minute checklist

Tick those three and there’s nothing else standing between you and the keys.

Common questions

What do I need as a tourist, exactly? Passport, visa or entry stamp, and your driving licence — plus an IDP if the licence isn’t in English or Arabic. Full detail in the visitor guide.

Do I really need a deposit? On most of our cars, no. Message us and we’ll confirm for the exact car you want.

Is the process any different for first-timers? Not at all — if it’s your first time, the beginner’s guide walks you through it gently.
